One thing to acknowledge and plan around is your specific personality. If you ignore the way you’re built, then finding increased productivity might be a failed challenge for you. But anyone can have a productive personality if they know its strengths and weaknesses.

How do you respond to expectations?
Gretchen Rubin’s Four Tendencies framework asks the question:
How do you respond to expectations?
Whether inner expectations or outer expectations, we all respond differently and this makes you an Upholder, Questioner, Rebel, or Obliger.
It’s been fascinating to learn what my tendency is (Questioner) and also to see tendencies emerge in my kids.
This knowledge helps me realize what I need to succeed at my goals.
If you want to hear more details about how the tendencies play out, then listen to today’s Homeschool with Moxie Podcast episode #43.

Do You Need Accountability & Structure or Mental Buy-In?
Depending on your tendency, you might need outer accountability to meet your goals. This would be true for people who can run a 5K if they’re doing it with friends, but who can’t follow through and run on their own during the week.
You might need an accountability group or partner to check in with you to see how you’re doing each month with your tasks.
Or, you might hate the idea of people checking in on you. If you’re a Questioner like I am, then you need mental buy-in. As soon as I’ve done my research and mentally can accept a goal and task, I’m good to go! I’ll get it done, even if no one else knows I’m working toward that goal. Because I do well with inner expectations, but cringe with random outer expectations.
So, finding out your personality tendency and working with it (instead of against it) will be a key component on seeing progress toward your goals this year.
Here’s what you need to do next.
Action Steps to Make Your Personality More Productive
Take the Four Tendencies quiz over at GretchenRubin.com and see how you respond to expectations.
Decide if you need outer accountability structures or mental buy-in or a bit of both. What will it take your personality style to succeed with productivity and reaching your goals this year?
Make a list of the weaknesses of your personality type and how you will address each one.
Now make a list of the strengths and find ways to harness these to meet your goals! You can do it, but only if you’re working with your personality type and not against it.
Remember, everyone has a productive personality if they know how it works best!
Join us tomorrow where we’ll tackle the idea of Deep Work vs. Multi-tasking! You won’t want to miss it.
