A few months ago, my sister purchased a subscription to Universal Yums for our family (Yay! Shout out to Aunt Sarah!) Getting the box each month is highly anticipated event in our house.
What is Universal Yums?
Universal Yums sends you an international snack box from a different country each month. So far our boxes have been from Israel, South Korea, and Colombia.
The origin country of each box’s treats is a surprise. My kids love to read the clues in the current box to try to figure out the featured country coming in the next box.
In addition to a fun sampling of native treats and snacks, each box also comes with information about the country and its food and culture. We like to read the enclosed pamphlet out loud as we all sample the snacks and give our opinion about the flavor.
Signing up for a Universal Yums subscription is an easy way to naturally fit geography into your month. You can do a lot of fun spin-off activities after your Universal Yums box arrives.
Here are some ideas:
- create a salt-dough map of the country
- make a poster or chart with the native crops
- make a list of top imports and exports
- research wildlife native to the area
- find out what kind of government that country has
- color the country’s flag
- plan a pretend trip to the country and map out the quickest route
- and check out these additional geography ideas

I think a Universal Yums subscription is the perfect gift from grandparents. Next time your parents ask what they can get your kids, instead of listing off the newest plastic toy, consider sending them this post!
