An IKEA homeschool room seems to be the gold-standard for at-home learners everywhere. It’s no wonder – their furniture fits so many decorating styles while being inexpensive and functional!
Even if you don’t have a dedicated homeschool room, or even if you’re not in the market for new furniture, you can still gain a lot of inspiration by walking through an IKEA.
If you don’t have one near you (I don’t!), then let this post and this one walk you through via photos.
Just to note: I visited the IKEA in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, so these prices are in Canadian dollars.
Your homeschooling space doesn’t have to include separate desks for each child. In fact, many times it’s easier to help the kids when you’re all around a common table. IKEA has some great options. This one is formed by two half-round tables, so you could even use it against a wall.
We noticed the KNOTTEN standing desk, which might make a great option for your teens (or yourself!). Bonus: it doesn’t take up much floor space and includes drawers and a shelf.
IKEA has great mix and match options for creating tables. Here’s the LINNMON tabletop for just $50. You would only need to add legs.
Look at the great options for tabletops!
And a few more…
Here’s a fun geometric design on the LINNMON tabletop and it’s only $40.
Legs start at just $5 each, so added to a tabletop, you could have a brand new homeschool table for just $60. (And remember – this is in Canadian dollars).
Here’s a great piece of furniture for storage. You could use this as a workbox system if you don’t want your home to look like an elementary classroom. Or, this would make a magnificent music storage cabinet!
The ALEX drawers also come in white.
And this is what I love about IKEA – they show you how to pull together their items to make a cohesive set-up. Here is that tabletop, table legs, and multiple ALEX drawer units forming a functional workstation.
If you’re curious about what this set-up cost, here’s the breakdown of the combination.
This post showed some additional chair options, but I really like the looks of the SKALBERG/SPORREN swivel chair.
IKEA’s accessories have great organizational capabilities for your homeschool room.
Here’s another functional set-up that includes a desk and storage space.
And the final price is $164 – check out the details below.
I could spend all day in IKEA. This trip was really painful because we only had about 30 minutes to run through the store, pick up what we really needed (a new chair cover) and dash out.
But the organizational bins always call my name. Look at these beauties!
Starting at just $7.99 (remember, this is in Canadian dollars), these bins are so simple and clean in their white finish. I could use these all over the house for sure.
And the small ones are just $5.99CD.
How about the RISATORP BASKET? Lovely colors and they have a wooden handle. Swoon!!
The TROFAST storage combination is a classic for a toy area or playroom. This combination is $99 Canadian.
If you’re looking for small desks to fit your youngest learners, then IKEA has tons of options for you too.
Here’s a super cute small desk set-up.
And of course, a multi-use easel will get lots of use in a homeschool family! This one is just $24.99 CD.
