Outschool classes just might be the perfect solution for you as a homeschool mom.
When you’re a new homeschool mom or a mom with multiple kids, you may feel instantly overwhelmed, thinking you need to teach your kids absolutely everything. But the beauty of homeschooling is that you can outsource the teaching!
There are so many digital tools available to us and it really does open up many topics and classes that we might not have otherwise been able to teach our kids.
One of the premier online course platforms is Outschool.
If you’ve ever been curious about how the platform works, what classes your kids can take, or even if you could earn some money on the side by teaching your own classes, then you’ll love this interview with Amir Nathoo, founder & CEO, below.
What is Outschool?
From their site:

Kids can learn about math with Pokemon or how to cook in the kitchen with Harry Potter inspired recipes. Outschool offers everything from 1:1 tutoring, small group classes ideal for homeschoolers, clubs and fun extracurricular activities for kids ages 3-18.
In fact, Outschool is the world’s largest online marketplace for classes geared toward kids and teens.

Is Outschool a homeschool program?
Outschool isn’t a homeschool program, per se, but you can certainly supplement your child’s current home education program with Outschool classes. You’ll find semester-long classes along with clubs and extra-curricular options.
Just a quick browsing of the platform shows me that I could piece together most of a 9th grade year using Outschool classes. Here’s an example off what I found:
- A certified English teacher that teaches a one hour English class each week for teens, covering literature, grammar, and comprehension. $8/week
- Algebra I full course that meets 2 days per week and is taught by a teacher with a B.S. in math. $18/class
- One semester of French I for high school meets once per week for $10/class
- If you keep digging, you can add in science, history, coding, art, music, or other electives.
How does Outschool work?
Are Outschool classes recorded or do I have to attend live? Yes, most of the classes are scheduled, live meetings. These live classes take place over Zoom. But some teachers create “flex” classes which are not live.
The average class costs around $14 per hour, but some are as low as $5 a class.
Who are the teachers on Outschool?
There are nearly 9k active teachers. All teachers are independent and are background checked. Teachers teach what they want and are passionate about the classes they offer.
Can homeschool moms make money by teaching on Outschool?
Yes, homeschool moms can make money from home by teaching on the platform. You can schedule your teaching when it fits best for you. Plus, you don’t even have to leave home to bring in a side income.
How much do you make on Outschool as a teacher? You can set your own class prices and the more students you have sign up to take your class, the more you’ll be making per hour.
You keep 70% of what you earn from your class and Outschool takes a 30% service fee.
