How many of you have people in your house who need to eat regularly? It surprises me every week that I can’t shop once and be done. It is a recurring theme. We need more food. Yikes!
How many of you like to take your homeschooled kids out with you to shop during school hours? What? You don’t like all the comments you get with your tribe in tow?
“Isn’t there school today?”
“Do you run a day care?”
“Oh, you homeschool? Aren’t they missing out on socialization?”
Gah.
With seven people in our house, here’s why I don’t go shopping (and you shouldn’t either).

WHY IS THIS A LIFE HACK?
As moms, we are concerned with the physical well-being of our kids. Laundry and food rank high on that list. (I already told you that you shouldn’t be doing laundry either.)
According to Wikipedia, a Life hack “refers to any trick, shortcut, skill, or novelty method that increases productivity and efficiency….” Not going shopping will deliver lost hours to your week! And you don’t have to interrupt your homeschool day to get groceries anymore.
RATIONALE
I think there are at least three key reasons why you should consider not going shopping anymore.
- Time: you will save time by not walking through the store to shop
- Money: you will save money because you will be less likely to impulse-buy
- Efficiency: drop items into your online cart as needed (no need to keep a list elsewhere)
OUR SYSTEM
Okay, so here, busy homeschool mom, is a system that you can use and say good-bye to traditional grocery shopping… forever!
Step 1: Download the app
So first you’ll need to check which local stores offer a delivery or pick-up option near you.
Walmart offers a convenient drive-up service where they will load the bags into your car. It’s amazing! And you can save $10 off your order with this link.
So, check which store offers the best service and location for you to use, and download their app for even easier online shopping. Of course, you can also shop online with their store website as well.
Step 2: Shop
As you go through the week or as you run out of grocery items, add them into your online cart and you will always have an accurate list of what you need to buy. By shopping online instead of walking through the store, you will be less likely to impulse-buy that bag of chocolate or favorite ice-cream. And by not taking your kids through the store with you on a weekly basis, you will save yourself the particular hassle of walking through the candy and cookie aisle with hungry kids!
Step 3: Enjoy your extra time not shopping!
It’s that easy! With a little planning you will find several hours a week magically returned to you.
