When my husband worked at a TMMC (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada) plant for several years, he came away with some key productivity tips. The more I thought about it, the more I realized they could apply to any area of life – including homeschool! Here’s how learning from Toyota can increase your homeschool productivity.

Key Thoughts
- The importance of systems
- Just in Time
- Incremental Improvement (Kaizen)
Applying them to homeschool
Homeschool productivity will skyrocket when you implement systems for all the regular tasks. But don’t just stop with your homeschool tasks! Since you’re likely home a lot with homeschooling, also look at areas of homemaking that would benefit from systems.
Take a just in time approach to your resources – don’t invest too much time or money with things that you might use in the future. Look ahead just a bit and prepare what you need. It will likely be there when you need it anyway – or you might change course and direction and need different resources instead.
Using a just in time approach will save you from stress. When you’re homeschooling a kindergartener, you don’t need to start learning about homeschooling high school. It will come.
Incremental improvement is a great family activity! Ask your kids or husband what systems need improved for more productivity or increased follow through. Change things up to improve your homeschool and homemaking tasks.
