As a homeschool mom and a piano teacher, I was excited to try out Music Appreciation Book 2: for the Middle Grades from Zeezok Publishing with my middle school son. Here’s an inside look and our complete Zeezok publishing review.
About the curriculum
Music Appreciation Book 2: for the Middle Grades included a student book with activity pages and 9 Great Musician Series biographies which create the core of this course.
This course includes everything from beginning music theory, to history and culture, to geography, and music appreciation with QR codes that help you locate the exact piece of music being discussed in the biography.
Your middle school students can work at this course independently.
I love that Music Appreciation Book 2: for the Middle Grades doesn’t use a dry, boring textbook as its core – rather, it uses the real-life stories of the composers, and specifically living books, to communicate the main story of each composer and his music.
It’s also helpful to see the culture and history surrounding each composer and how it influenced his musical compositions.

Zeezok Publishing Review Recommendations
This curriculum is excellent if you’re more of a living book homeschooler. That is, instead of dry textbooks that teach the basics of music appreciation, your children will learn instead from story.
Additionally, even your younger children will enjoy listening in on these stories. So, in that way, you can use this curriculum for more grade levels than you think. It’s a great way to teach multiple ages together!
