Do you have a child that might have dyslexia? If so, you’ll want to hear about the help you can receive from the Dyslexia Gold Full Bundle from Dyslexia Gold.
One of my sons exhibited all the classic signs of dyslexia back when we started homeschooling kindergarten. But I felt ill-prepared to help address his struggles. I wish I would have known about Dyslexia Gold back then.
The best part of the Dyslexia Gold program is that they aim to solve the underlying problems that affect students’ fluency. 98% of kids who struggle with reading have these common characteristics:
- vision problems
- poor phonological awareness
There are 3 main language game sections and one math game.
Times Table Tutor
The Times Table Tutor will customize the games to your child’s level.
After practicing, your child takes a “quiz” to check their progress.
Your child has options to take the placement test or work on specific times tables.
This activity encourages auditory learners to say the equations out loud.
Spelling Tutor
If you want a structured program that also tailors the instruction to your child, then Spelling Tutor provides just that. With its repetition, your student will learn to spell 1000 of the most common words.
The first exercise asks the student to listen to a sentence and write it out on paper. Then, the answers are given for your student to self-correct their work.
Repetition is encouraged as well as multiple modalities.
All of the components on Dyslexia Gold include detailed reports of your child’s individual learning progress.
Fluency Builder
The Fluency Builder section of the program emphasizes phonological awareness, helping students identify and use the separate phonemes that form words. This leads to increased fluency in reading.
You can easily see which sounds each lesson covers in the reports.
The reports also detail how your student is doing with each of these components that add to reading fluency.
Engaging Eyes
I was very surprised to learn that 98% of struggling readers have a vision problem. I was never told this when my son had special reading tutoring when he was younger. I’m not even sure the tutor was aware, but it makes total sense to me now looking back at his reading struggles when he was in first grade.
I can see now that he had tracking issues which led to reading problems. It really wasn’t a lack of understanding his phonics instruction.
Since my son is a now a teenager, he has found ways to cope with his probable dyslexia. At the recommendation of the publisher, he only used the Engaging Eyes portion of Dyslexia Gold.
The Engaging Eyes Vision Training component of Dyslexia Gold features 8 games.
Whack an Alien exercises rapid eye movement muscles while your kids try to literally whack an alien (click them with the mouse) when they pop up on the screen but before they disappear again.
They sent special 3D glasses that my son wore while completing the Target Practice games. The Target Practice 3D game helps with convergence, or bringing the eyes together.
Speed Fix and Eye Tracking work on efficient eye tracking skills.
Recommendations
The publisher recommends that children spend about 10 minutes per day playing each of the programs. Because the games and activities are fun, this won’t be a problem for most young kids.
I think my teenage son was too old to benefit completely from this program. When kids get older, they can tend to be more embarrassed by their learning difficulties and not as eager to be active participants, which I think is essential to seeing success.
However, if we had found this program ten years ago, it would have been amazing! I would have ditched the “boxed curriculum” I was using for language arts and really focused on helping my son with his eye tracking and also phonemic awareness issues.
So if you have a younger child who is exhibiting signs of possible dyslexia, I do recommend that you look into Dyslexia Gold.
Your child can use this program independently, not causing extra work for you.
And the publisher claims that children’s reading improves by an average of 12 months after 10 hours with this program.
You could purchase the Dyslexia Screening Test on the site first to get some concrete answers.
